On Location with Charlaine Harris

So, it's been a pretty busy couple of days for me, first with the signing on Saturday, when I got to meet Maggie Stiefvater. Then last night, I was giddy as I had the opportunity to meet Charlaine Harris, creator of one of my favourite fictional characters, Eric Northman. Ok, Sookie Stackhouse is pretty good too, in her own rights, but there's nothing like a tall Viking, I tell ya....but I digress.

Ms. Harris was fantastic to see live. Her Southern accent and pleasant demeanor were well displayed as she answered many questions from the audience. Standing behind some tall people, I didn't venture any questions of my own, but I can share a few of her answers here.

When asked which character from the TV show, TrueBlood, that she liked that wasn't in her books, she said she loves Jessica. Speaking about regrets, one person asked Ms. Harris if there was an character she wished she hadn't killed off. Her answer was Claudine (though she also admitted that killing off characters made her more pleasant to be around, lol).

Here are some pics of the event:

I brought along my daughter, the photographer in training,
but we were far enough back that my old camera
went kind of dark here.

Here's Mel from He Followed Me Home getting her books signed.
We're partners in crime when it comes to book signing ;)

Now, it's my turn to chat with Charlaine.

This could be the moment Charlaine asked me about my feelings on Dead
Reckoning and I mentioned my frustrations with the politics involved
in Sookie & Eric's relationship. I didn't go too hard on her,
telling her I couldn't wait to see what happens next!

They even had a little "Bubba Keg" of TruBlood on hand, to quench
the thirsty crowd while we waited in the crazy heat.

The end result: my two signed books!

This was another great event (despite my complaining about the lack of available seats...there were over 300 people in attendance, after all!) put on by Indigo Books (at the Eatons Centre) and Penguin Books Canada. And a big thanks goes out to Bronwyn from Penguin, who brought us juice :)

@Caro - It was awesome! I've read the last two books but nothing else since the first; now i have to read all the middle ones. I keep reading so I can squeeze every minute of the Sookie/Eric scenes :)

@Liz - The heat was BAAAADDD, lol. But, my fan girl moments made up for everything!

Wow. You are lucky. I have read all of her books and am just about to review the last one. Eric is my favourite character as well.

@Caro - I'm going back as soon as I have time to catch up on them. Maybe when I get to the last 3 books, I can read along with you to help you through them? ;) (No fears, it'll be a little while yet)

@Kat - I just reviewed Dead Reckoning myself. I hope you enjoy it, though I still felt that some of the story lines will continue on into the next book(s). Thankfully 2 more books of Eric....I mean Eric and Sookie ;)

@Melissa - Sadly the daughter was grumpy and had to be bribed with a Judy Moody book :P On the upside, she's been reading it everyday since, lol.
