On Location with Maggie Stiefvater

I had the great pleasure of seeing Maggie Stiefvater live on Saturday, as she stopped in at Chapters in Oshawa, Ontario for part of her Forever tour. Maggie came on stage, ready to go with stories of other live events she's been to, a tale of how she found out she't hit number one on the NYT Bestseller's list, and more. From the images below, you can see she is full of energy (yeah, let's go with that as the reason that some are blurry), but she's witty and full of charm.

Unfortunately, these events really never allow for a one on one conversation, but I did manage to squeeze in my own question. When I asked Maggie how she was able, when writing, to switch from her quirky online/in-person personality to the more mellow one that we see throughout her Wolves of Mercy Falls series, she told me that really, these were both true aspects of herself, one being the public image, the other the private one. She said that when writing, you see more of that private image in the words.

Other questions asked by the audience included one about which was her favourite character to write. She said Cole St. Clair was a lot of fun and had elements of demons she, herself, faced in College. Personally, Cole is my fave too, because of his many facets and the struggles he has had to endure. Being a rock start might not be as fun as it looks, when seen from his perspective, I guess.

Here's Maggie moving across the stage
(see? I told you she was a bit blurry :)

Maggie seems like the energetic type, for sure.

She sat down for a few moments to answer questions.

Here's Mel from He Followed Me Home
my bestie, showing off her new haircut :)

Mel and Maggie posing for the camera.

I hopped in with them to get this pic.

On our way out, Mel and I found Maggie's car, "Loki",  in the parking lot (no, we weren't stalking, we were parked close to it and it's a car that kinda stands out, lol). Notice the license plate reads, "SHIVER"; cool, right?

Maggie also talked a bit about her upcoming release, The Scorpio Races, which sounds interesting. And because I was bad at taking notes this time, I can't elaborate on that any further :-p But, I can tell you that when Maggie inevitably gets asked the question of who would play Sam (from Shiver, Linger, & Forever) in the movie version, she can't think of a Hollywood actor because she doesn't think of him as having movie star looks; she thinks maybe Alex Turner from Arctic Monkeys comes closest. This was another great event hosted by Chapters and Scholastic Books Canada! Wish me luck on winning the guitar that all attendees had the chance to win :)

I'll see you around another signing soon. :)

@Laura - Thanks! And, alas, I did not win the guitar :( Maggie's books are great, I think; full of emotion.

@Melissa - I totally feel lucky! I seriously wish I could sit down and tap into my own emotions to write; who knows what would come out?!

@Chrystal - I saw your pics but haven't had a chance to comment yet; so cute! I'm sure there will be many more signings, if not, then Word on the Street?!

@Liz - it was great meeting you too! I saw your write-up, but haven't had time to read yet. Will be there tomorrow to read your take, for sure :)
